Spherical valve is designed for blocking the tubrine penstock in the following cases:
— at each shutdown of a hydraulic unit, thereby preventing the turbine wicket gate wear caused by clearance cavitation;
— at repairs and inspections of the hydroturbine water passage;
— in case of emergency — in case of a failure of the turbine wicket gate and with decreasing pressure in the oil pressue unit (OPU).
